CediSync vs Excel
Your real competitor is a spreadsheet. Ours too.
Most bureaux in Ghana run the day on Excel, paper, and a whiteboard. It works — until a figure is questioned and there's no way to prove what happened. Here's the honest comparison.
| The job | Excel & paper | CediSync |
|---|---|---|
| Recording a trade | Typed into a sheet at day's end — or from a drawer ticket, or from memory. | Captured at the counter on a phone or till PC; posts to the ledger the moment it happens. |
| Today's rate | A whiteboard, or a cell someone edits. No record of who changed it, or when. | Published once; every teller quotes the board and the TV display follows live. Every change is audited with actor, time, and previous value. |
| Correcting a mistake | Overwrite the cell. The original number is gone. | Corrections supersede — the original stays, linked, with who changed what and when. |
| End of day | An evening of copying totals, and the figure is whatever the sheet says. | The book closes in the app and the server independently recomputes every figure. A wrong close cannot be saved. |
| Checking on a branch | Call the supervisor and hope the sheet is up to date. | Owner dashboard on your phone — revenue, variance, and close status per branch, live. |
| The daily report | Built by hand, emailed if there's time. | Emailed automatically when the book closes, with per-branch P&L. Monthly and comparison reports come from the same ledger. |
| Receipts | A receipt book, disconnected from the records. | Printed from the recorded trade, with a QR code anyone can scan to verify it against the ledger. |
| When the internet drops | Excel keeps working — this one is honest. | Trading continues on the device; queued trades sync when you're back and a supervisor ratifies each before it posts. |
What Excel is genuinely good at
Ad-hoc analysis, one-off models, and anything you haven't systematized yet. We're not here to tell you spreadsheets are useless — we use them too.
What it can't give a bureau
An audit trail. A spreadsheet is one shared file where any cell can be edited by anyone with the password, and history is whatever the last save says. For a licensed, regulated cash business, that's the whole problem.
Moving over
We import your currencies, staff list, branches, and opening balances from your existing spreadsheet, together with you on a call. Your Excel files stay yours — as the archive, not the ledger.
